Task 2 La Rioja, Argentina

Back to "World Cup La Rioja, Argentina 2021, Season 2022"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

Blues skies, sunshine and a 66km task were on the menu to get this World Cup off to a great start today.  The task took pilots on a tour of two triangles. The first one was to the south, then one to the north.

The start cylinder had a 15 km radius. Those who launched earliest got the furthest round and were able to take advantage of the easterly wind behind them to get to the first turn point.

It turned out to be a very pleasant day of paragliding. There were strong climbs, light winds, giant areas of lift and large areas of sink, which sunk some.

It was a day to be in a gaggle searching together to get the best line. Those who broke away and tried to go it alone got overtaken.

In the words of Italian sky god Giuliano Minutella, ‘it was a perfect day, with a perfect task, perfect weather and perfect empanadas.’

The first 60 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
