Disentis Task 4 Summary

Back to "World Cup Switzerland 2020 ::: Disentis"
With blue skies and not much cloud, a 110 km task to Davos, then on to Schiers was set.The first part of the course once again offered great views of glaciers and lakes. The thermals were easy to find, marked by the clouds. The big valley crossing just before Chur had everyone holding their breath, as pilots got low with weak thermals. Then came more breath-taking views after Chur, patience was required, and the best routes were away from the mountains which made it difficult to get high. After Davos it got easier as the cloud base was higher.
Unfortunately, the valley breeze and ESS being on a hillside 350m above the goal field caught out even some of the best today.
The average speed of the fastest pilot round the course was 27 km/h.
The first 55 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed/time points and lead out points.
