Apologies for the blank page this morning - we had a technical error in some of the new stuff which now delivers the news.

We believe we have a chance of a task today so wwe will be briefing at Caischavedra (the middle cable car station) at 10:30.

Task news will be along as soon as it has been set.

We have low clouds over the whole of Switzerland and it is forecast to rain in Disentis from 1300 onwards so we are still unable to fly.

We are holding out for a possible task on Saturday. More news when it is available

It is raining at headquarters, the clouds are low on the hills and the forcecast indicates worse weather than yesterday.

We are still hopeful for improved weather at the end of the week so we will continue to try for some more flying.

After a cold-front during the night, last showers will be at Disentis in the early morning.

The cloud banks in the south will remain and clouds will cover our area mostly (5-7/8). These clouds will have a base of 2700m (this has nothing to do with thermal-cloudbase).

Almost no thermals because of these clouds. Further east, there is more sun and a thermal-cloudbase of 2700m.

In the north of the Alps a 2000m-thick cold airmass will push in to the alps. Therefor we have probably not a real Foen. In our area we believe, that this airmass will have a height of 1500m and therefor we have not a lot of wind at 1500m.

Above 2200m: 9h variable, 14h: SSW 15kn.

And one more factor to make it complicated: From the south a low cold airmass will push over the Lukmanier to Disentis towards afternoon ...

Did you understand all this? ... Pretty complicated... and finally it often comes different than it looks.

To say it easy:
At Disentis we have clouds, therefor the thermals (if there are thermals) do not get high enough to get in to the wind ... But the chance for a valid task is small ...

I checked different possibilities. But - i get crazy - it is more or less like this: Wind or showers.
Fiesch:
Cloud Base at 3100m: Wind 20kn...

Schiers (it is a "Foen-Flying-Area" for us):
Flyable, but not taskable because of the wind at higher levels (because of nicer weather, the cloudbase will be high. At 3000m: 30kn S).

Weissenstein:
N-Wind

Decision:
We stay here and hope for a small flyable window (I am pretty sure that we go up, chance for a small valid task I would call 25%). If we like to make a stupid task for the world ranking, we could call the chance 60% or more (glide to Trun).

Its been a good task - in the end we had 57 pilots in goal. The results are now prepared and are available online from the link above.

Tomorrow has been cancelled due to high winds being forecast - more news will be here as soon as the decisions have been made.

DISENTIS: METEO INFORMATION, TASK SUNDAY CANCELLED, REGISTRATION SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

METEO INFORMATION

Friday- Overdevelopment in the afternoon, after 14h it has to be watched- Westerly winds, 3000m: SW, 10kmh, later more- Thermal activity starts pretty early- Clouds along the relief, later Congestus- Cloud Base 3200m. The thermals will be strong. I would believe, that we can fly, we should be early. Because of the high Base and the wind, probably it is good to fly towards NE.

Saturday- Pretty nice weather, but:- Heavy overdevelopment in the afternoon.- Normal Winds in the lower levels- Base at 2500m? Or higher (I believe higher)- 3000m: 25kmh SW (little bit more wind as Friday)

Sunday - The prognosis looks bad. Clouds 11h above 1500, afternoon 2000.Rain. Not a lot, but it will be wet. Jura: Probably too much Bise/NE-WindTessin: Northwind - I don't believe, that a flight is possible. Almost sure no task. Maybe in the late afternoon a soaring flight at T

Monday - Looks good, but we should be early - Subsidence

Tuesday - Next frontal system is arriving, maybe we can do a short flight to Ilanz

Wednesday - Gets better

Thursday, Friday, Saturday - Looks better, good, but it is too early to make a prognosis.

Saturday:Meeting 09:30 at headquarter (to get maps and free ticket for the cable car) or 10:30 at the cable car station (you have to pay your own cable car ticket).
