"World Cup Krushevo, Macedonia 2022"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop
With another day of blue skies and sunshine, an 80 km task was set. It was easy and quick to get to the first turn point.
There was a tricky corridor section in the middle. Some pushed out into the flats and got low. The leg out across the flats really spread the pilots out. It was a day for choosing your gaggle and line very carefully. Good thermals of 5m/s were however available en-route.
There were nicely spaced cumulus clouds and cloud streets, but there was many a low save and some real sink holes along the way.
The lead gaggle got low at the last turn point which allowed those behind to catch up.
After the turn point some went to the east of the optimum line in search of a climb under a promising looking cloud. Mission accomplished. Those who won the race climbed here. The race was then on, and record-breaking speeds were reached.
The last word from today’s race comes from today’s winner Tanguy Renaud-Goud: When asked about how they were going to celebrate his task win, he told us: ‘All the young people are tired today. What is happening?’ That could be something to do with five fantastic tasks, 433 km and two more days of good weather forecast ahead of us!
The first 110 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
