Task 8 Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

We had another nice task today, with some tricky moments along the 94km course line south of take off. Although the ceiling was not very high there were thermals everywhere.

There was plenty of action, the key moment being how to pass on the upwind side of the big mountain at the south turn point. The competition divided into two groups with Honorin Hamard and Philipp Haag both first equal in the competition overall racing to the fourth turn point in different groups.

Getting back to goal was not so easy. Within sight of goal the leaders got stuck, scraped across end of speed and then somehow managed to get a climb and make goal as those watching the race held their breathe.

Thanks to the task committee for another imaginative task: Manuel Quintanilla, Estefano Salgado and Felix Rodriguez.

Reining Super Final champion Luc Armant, sums up the competition so far: Each day gives a different perspective of the place, it looks like we'll not be able to be bored in this playground even if we stay competing for another month. I really love it here and I wish that the Super Final never ends.

The first 73 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
