Task 7 Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

With a good forecast a 118 km task was set.

Today we had the full range of conditions, starting with super fast, good climbs and high cloudbase. The task led the pilots along the ridge to the antennas before going south into the flatter parts of this playground.

Some clouds near the second turn point helped to show the lift.

On the way back north the west wind picked up and blew the thermals away.

Going north, level with Valle onwards, there were 30km winds from the west. If you were lucky you could find 1m/s lift but the climbs were very tilted.

In the now blue skies and with higher and higher ground elevation it was hard to find some wind blown thermal bubbles.

The wind broke up the weak thermals and made it easy for pilots to get stuck on the long leg north and en route to ESS.

Therefore, less than 30 pilots managed to reach goal; landing tired but with a smile on their faces. 😉

For Pepe MALECKIA flying his 98th World Cup task, ‘it was a tough hard day, but I really enjoyed it!’

The first 29 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
