Task 6 Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

Today there was more humidity than on previous days which created more clouds. A 94 km task taking the pilots south and then to a goal below take off was set.

It was a fast task and finding the convergence was the key that made all the difference.

Strong conditions under the convergence meant that the pilots could fly almost without turning. This made the first turnpoint and back to the ‘g spot’ nice and easy.

Here some pilots tried different routes but didn’t really succeed.

The average speed of the leaders was more than 40km/h, the second gaggle unfortunately got stuck in a weak thermal in front of the last turnpoint and lost around 20 minutes to the leaders.

The final glide to the ESS was a fast a furious dash with Maxime Pinot taking a more direct line which paid off and gave him his 11th World Cup task win.

A big thank you to Estefano SALGADO and all his team at Los Veleros for hosting such a wonderful World Cup 30th Birthday party this evening.

Tomorrow is a well-earned rest day for everyone – see you all again on Wednesday.

The first 110 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
