Task 5 Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

With another great forecast a 94km race was set taking the pilots south of Valle de Bravo.

For the second day in a row the start was unusually, 11km from take-off.

The start of the race up to the second turn point was very tight.

The only pilot who really managed to breakaway and make an impression was Erwan Didriche. He took a completely different route to the others, to the east. A brave decision. However, without the help of the gaggle to find the lift, he was always going to be slower.

After the second turn point, two groups formed, one headed off in the direction of take-off and the other towards Le Penon. The two groups rejoined a little later under the convergence.

91 pilots landed on the plateau on the way to or from the last turn point as the clouds spread out creating a lot of shade. 25 somehow managed to survive and got to goal.

Johanna Hamne summed up today rather nicely, ‘It was good, until it wasn’t.’

The first 25 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
