Task 3 Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

Today was very clear and there were great views of the volcano for the whole task.

The race took the competitors south of Valle de Bravo.

For the first part of the race there was a southerly wind giving an into wind leg and a cross wind leg.

However, today’s 83 km task was all about the options after the second turn point and choosing where to take the third turn point. It was very tactical as the route further south was nearer to End of Speed but less sure compared to the optimum line which was longer.

There were lots of different climbs as everyone spread out on the big plateau. There was convergence along the course line to follow and terrain triggers to choose from.

At turn point three everyone came together in the convergence zone. Then came the hardest part of all, getting to End of Speed with light lift and a head wind, milking the convergence was key, whilst others landed.

End of Speed to goal was easier with lift everywhere and great views of the lake.

The best day of the competition with 101 pilots in goal.

The first 101 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.
