Task 2, Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

Today’s task was another wonderful tour of the beautiful countryside around Valle de Bravo.

The weather was stable, with high pressure and very windy. The cores of the thermals were very small. The cycles were short. There were no clouds: All of which combined to make it very tough going.

Getting to turn point 1 was a fast, bumpy ridge run where it was difficult to get high.

They got high for the first time at turn point three, over Cerro Gordo, halfway round the course.

At the fourth and final turn point it got windy again, providing a mixed bag of conditions for the final leg north to goal.

Today was a day to concentrate 100% all the way round, but that is what the Super Final is all about. Today proved that this competition is for the super good. What an amazing achievement that 91 pilots flew 85 km in such difficult conditions.

The first 91 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.

In the team competition the top two pilots in each team are scored and the second one gives the ranking. The highest placed second team pilot was Baptiste LAMBERT flying for team Alas del Hombre.
