Task 1 Super Final, Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Back to "12th World Cup Superfinal ::: Mexico (Valle de Bravo)"
Summary written by Ruth Jessop

With blue skies and high pressure an 84 km task was set taking the pilots on a tour south of Valle de Bravo.

Everyone seemed to get staggeringly high before the start then after the first turn point the going got very tough. It was very stable making it difficult to gain height. There was a lot of drift in the thermals as they faced a head wind which hindered progress. This was where the field separated into two groups that never got in touch again. Those who survived this area efficiently managed to pull ahead and get onto the end of the El Penon ridge. From there to turn point three it was a very nice race with clouds marking the convergence.

From turn point three to four and into goal it was easier if you were early as the thermals got weaker later on but there were still clouds marking the thermals as the last of the eighty-three pilots who made it touched down in the picturesque field next to the lake.

A great very challenging first task with lots of changes of pace.

The first 84 pilots made goal, and thus all flew the same distance, and gained the same distance points. Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed points and lead out points.

In the team competition the top two pilots in each team are scored and the second one gives the ranking. The highest placed second team pilot was Baptiste Lambert flying for team Alas del Hombre.
