Pilot 115: Maxime Pinot (FRA)
Maxime is well known for leading out, taking innovative routes and leaving the crème de la crème of the paragliding world far behind. Winner of task 4 and third overall in the Pico do Gaviao, Brazil World Cup in 2019, he will definitely be one to keep an eye on in the Super Final (24/03/2020 to 04/04/2020 in Castelo, Brazil).
"I did my first tandem flight when I was 9. Then, a lot more with my father until I started to fly alone at the age of 13. I was soon interested in cross country and comps so I entered the French federation national training centre when I was 15. I won my first comp task when I was 17. I have never stopped flying or competing. Winning the Super Final in 2014 is still my biggest sporting achievement so far. Winning a World Cup again in St André (France) in 2016 was very emotional because this is one of my favourite places.
What appeals to me the most in World Cups is always learning from the best pilots. Failing, trying, and finally succeeding. In the end, I know it will not change anything in my life, but those very moments of success are so exciting to me. So, I always come back for more, even after bad comps.
Beside this, I also compete in Hike&fly comps and came 2nd in the Red Bull X-Alps in 2019. I'm a paragliding instructor in Annecy, and I want to develop my cross-country guiding courses in 2020.
I like to be outdoors and I'm an endurance sports fan (trail running in which I compete sometimes, XC skiing, ski touring). At one point, I studied literature for four years and have kept up my love for reading, cinema, and writing... somehow."
